APNIC has published its submission to the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) public consultation on proposed amendments to Malaysia’s Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA).
MCMC’s consultation paper (available on MCMC’s website) proposes amendments including:
- Conferring statutory authority on MCMC for the management and administration of electronic addressing resources, including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and Autonomous System (AS) numbers.
- Supporting the development of a Malaysian National Internet Registry (NIR) model for the administration of Internet number resources.
- Establishing a legal basis for the imposition and administration of fees by MCMC in connection with electronic addressing resources.
The APNIC Executive Council’s (EC’s) previous correspondence with MCMC on a potential Malaysian NIR is available on the EC Correspondence Page.
APNIC also presented at MCMC’s recent seminar on this topic on 23 June, and APNIC’s presentation slides are available.
