APNIC’s podcast PING continued to attract experts to discuss varied Internet operations topics in 2025 — here are three of the best.

  1. [Podcast] Downloading the root — Geoff Huston discusses the Domain Name System (DNS) root zone and how query load at the root could be reduced by using trusted local copies of the zone.
  2. [Podcast] Greasing the wheels — Shumon Huque discusses how greasing — testing unused protocol values — can keep extensible protocols flexible and prevent future extensions from breaking.
  3. [Podcast] Pulse Internet Measurement Forum at APRICOT 2025: Part 2 — In the second PING recording from APRICOT 2025, Amreesh Phokeer speaks about collaboration between measurement experts and policy professionals, Beau Geiskens discusses reducing database query load through event-sourcing, Doug Madory highlights a quirk in Internet Routing Registry (IRR) usage that causes massive costs, and Lia Hestina discusses the Ripe Atlas project.

APNIC has now been producing PING for over three years, inviting subject matter experts to discuss varied Internet operations topics. It’s now available on most popular platforms and will return in the new year.
