A global, open, stable and secure Internet is built on critical infrastructure, essential cybersecurity operations, and advanced network technologies. Keeping up to date with and developing the skills needed to deliver the Internet that increasing numbers of people in our region depend on is a constant practice.
APNIC provides a growing library of free training and information resources to support the professional development needs of our Members and community. Ranging from webinars and self-paced courses to instructor-led training, you’ll find something that works for your learning style and fits in with your other commitments.
In this blog post, you’ll find examples of the different types of free learning resources APNIC offers, and ways to access even more.
Note: Some of these need a free APNIC Academy account, which often takes less than five minutes to register for.
On-demand webinars
Webinars offer a relatively short and sharp (30 – 120 minutes) deep dive by subject matter experts on specific topics. They usually provide grounding in a topic or focus on a specific element of the topic. Some good places to get started are:
- IPv6 Address Planning: This course will cover IPv6 address planning, including discussing address examples for infrastructure, enterprise, broadband and data centres environments. It will also cover traffic shaping and routing.
- Hosted vs. Delegated Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI): In the cours,e you will learn more about the differences between hosted RPKI and delegated RPKI and their use cases. You will find out about different scenarios in which delegated RPKI could be useful, for example, large enterprises, national research and education networks (NRENs) and organizations that have gone through mergers and acquisitions.
- Learning from Honeypots: Honeypots are resources that can be used to detect and learn about security attacks. This course will give you a general overview of honeypots and show some use cases of how honeypots can be useful for organizations and security practitioners.

Self-paced courses
Self-paced courses are a combination of short video modules and quizzes to test and validate your knowledge, and provide a certificate of completion. They range in length from less than one hour to several hours, and cover topics like:
- Cybersecurity Fundamentals: The course will cover the essential elements of cybersecurity, including terminology, security controls, identity and access management, cryptography, and incident response. By the end of the course, you will be well-equipped to pursue more advanced courses in the field or apply this knowledge in practical situations.
- Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security (MANRS) Course: This course provides an introduction to MANRS, including the four actions network operators should implement to improve routing security on the Internet.
- OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) Course: Learn the routing protocol OSPF, including key concepts of the OSPF working mechanism, route redistribution, authentication, fast convergence and troubleshooting.
There are plenty more topics to explore in APNIC Academy.
Instructor-led training
APNIC Academy consistently offers instructor-led online tutorials on a range of topics with options for various time zones. Coming up in September 2025 you can sign up for:
- 16 September 2025 – Network Management & Monitoring: The objective of this tutorial is to introduce Network Management and Monitoring (NMM) concepts, techniques, tools, and best practices that can help participants effectively implement solutions catered for their requirements.
- 17 September 2025 – SNMP, LibreNMS and RRD: This Open Lab focuses on understanding Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) applications, going through the step-by-step installation and setup of LibreNMS, an open source NMM tool.

It is not too late to register for APNIC Academy Training workshops on advanced routing or network management, monitoring, and security at APNIC 60 from 4 to 11 September 2025 in Da Nang, Viet Nam.
Conference talks
Speaking of conferences, the APNIC and APRICOT conferences bring together regional and global knowledge, which is captured in the recordings posted after the session.
To deepen your Internet operations knowledge and see how you might benefit from attending a future conference, check out the recordings of sessions from recent ones:
- Network Management & Monitoring: This presentation examines the outcomes of the Internet Architecture Board’s ‘Next Era of Network Management Operations (NEMOPS) workshop held in December 2024. It explores the historical context of network management specifications defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force, key insights and takeaways from the workshop, and their implications for the future.
- Measuring & Automating: By centralizing network data such as IP addresses, VLANs, and device configurations within IP address management (IPAM), ISPs can ensure accurate and consistent deployments across a multi-vendor environment. The presentation focuses on practical implementations, featuring examples of automating Mikrotik routers, Huawei switches, Juniper MX480, and Cisco NCS routers.
- Cryptography in Quantum Era: This session provides an overview of how classical cryptography can be compromised by the power of quantum computing and what the post-quantum world looks like. The session does not presume much prior knowledge and assumes a tutorial approach.
You can find playlists of recorded sessions from many years’ worth of conferences on the APNIC YouTube channel.
Policy development
Internet Number Resource (INR) policy plays an important role in shaping how resources are managed in our region, and benefits greatly from contributions from people with direct experience of the impact of these policies.
If INR policy is new to you, don’t worry, as there are some simple ways for you to find your way with the APNIC Policy Development Process (PDP):
- Webinar: This 50-minute session is a good way to get grounded, covering what a policy is, types of policy, and other aspects of the PDP.
- Course: The course covers similar topics to the webinar, but includes quizzes to help you verify your understanding of the material.
- Open Policy Meeting (OPM): Experience may be the best teacher of all, and there are no prerequisites to participating in an OPM beyond a willingness to learn and share your opinion.
