APNIC is pleased to announce the APNIC Academy IPv6 Certification (Associate) — ALPHA Trial, free for participants in the Philippines and Nepal.
The associate-level certification focuses on the basics of the IPv6 protocol, combining both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Delivered in a five-day face-to-face bootcamp format, the certification concludes with a knowledge-based examination.
Insights gained from the pilot bootcamps in the Philippines and Nepal will help refine the content and delivery before expanding to the broader community in 2025.
Course structure
Through a series of structured modules, participants will learn the essentials of IPv6, from addressing and header structure to routing and transition techniques. It is designed to ensure participants not only understand IPv6 concepts but are also prepared to implement them in real-world scenarios.
This workshop course is divided into 10 modules:
Module 1: IPv6 Addressing
Module 2: IPv6 Header
Module 3: IPv6 Address Types
Module 4: Internet Control Message Protocol for IPv6 (ICMPv6) and Path MTU Discovery (PMTUD)
Module 5: Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP) and IPv6 Address Configuration: Static and SLAAC
Module 6: IPv6 Address Configuration: DHCPv6
Module 7: IPv6 Multicast and Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD)
Module 8: IPv6 Subnetting and Address Planning
Module 9: IPv6 Routing Basics
Module 10: Overview of IPv6 Transition Techniques
Each module builds on the previous one, ensuring a solid understanding of IPv6 networking.

Exam
The exam, which takes place onsite at the end of the face-to-face bootcamp, will assess participants’ knowledge and practical application of IPv6 concepts. A specific score will be required to earn the certification, ensuring that participants have met the necessary standards.
This certification validates participants:
- Understand the fundamentals of IPv6 addressing and header structure.
- Can identify different IPv6 address types and their scopes.
- Configure IPv6 addresses using methods like SLAAC and DHCPv6.
- Explain the role of key IPv6-related protocols like ICMPv6, NDP, and MLD.
- Perform IPv6 subnetting and create efficient address plans.
- Understand the basics of IPv6 routing concepts and transition techniques.
Upon successfully passing the exam, participants will be awarded an official IPv6 associate-level certification from APNIC, recognizing their expertise and readiness to work with and manage IPv6 networks.
Begin your journey towards IPv6 certification by submitting an Expression of Interest. Once EOI is reviewed, selected participants will receive an invitation to enrol in the certification program. Upon enrolment, you’ll gain access to all learning materials and resources, and be invited to participate in the face-to-face training.
