Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across the Asia Pacific region, APNIC 50 will become an online-only event with the conference dates set for 8 – 10 September 2020.
APNIC and ISPAB (Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh), the local host of APNIC 50, have met regularly since January and monitored developments in the hope that the pandemic situation may improve by the end of the year. However, the health risks have not eased, and with international borders closed in the region it became clear that holding the event in Dhaka as normal was going to be impossible.
For these reasons, the decision was made to move to an online-only format.
The conference will go ahead online over three days, 8-10 September 2020. The format of the program is currently being finalised and will be announced in the coming weeks, along with the opening of registration.
The workshop week will not proceed; however, for those interested in training opportunities there are many online options available through APNIC Academy’s 2020 Virtual Training Program including webinars, virtual labs and self-paced courses. Travel fellowships will resume at the next face-to-face conference.
APNIC would again like to express its deep appreciation for the excellent support and efforts from everyone at ISPAB to host the conference in Dhaka. APNIC understands and shares the disappointment of the Bangladesh community that the conference could not be held in Dhaka this time.
We hope to help bring some better news to the community on future conferences in the coming months, and we hope to see as many of the APNIC community as possible online at APNIC 50.
