G’day! Welcome to APRICOT 2020, held in Australia’s most liveable city, Melbourne.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of APRICOT, and with another jam-packed technical program there will be plenty on offer for all those attending as well as for remote participants.

APRICOT 2020 highlights
Don’t miss the Opening Ceremony and Plenary with keynote speakers: ICANN CTO, David Conrad, who will be looking back over the last 25 years since APRICOT was founded, and looking forward to the next 25 years; and Prof. Mark A Gregory from RMIT University’s School of Engineering, who’ll provide an engineering and economic comparison and contrast of FTTH/FTTP deployments across the Asia Pacific.
As always, there’s plenty of technical content in the program, including the regular Asia Pacific Operators Forum (APOPS) tracks, sessions on peering, data centre networking, and IPv6.
Security will also again be a key theme with several sessions looking at BGP and Routing Operations, MANRS, and the increasingly popular RPKI, the new RPKI SIG. Also, the FIRST TC track will have a host of international security professionals sharing their recent threat response experiences.
For those who want to deep dive, there will be many tutorials on offer to extend your knowledge on everything from the use of artificial intelligence in data centres to transitioning broadband and cellular network to IPv6-only.
For early-career attendees, and those interested in the growing need to nurture the next generation of network operators, make sure you get along to the APNIC NextGen Careers BoF, to have your questions answered about how to further your career.
Finally, it will be worth sticking around for or tuning in to the Closing Plenary headlined by Prof. Hanna Suominen from ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science, who will be discussing the need for safeguarding information associated with Machine Intelligence.

APNIC 49
Three proposals are up for discussion at the APNIC 49 Policy SIG:
- prop-130: Modification of transfer policies
- prop-133: Clarification on Sub-Assignments
- prop-134: PDP Update

Friday, 21 February 2020 is the day of the Annual General Meeting (AGM), where APNIC Members can learn more about APNIC’s operational and financial performance. The APNIC Executive Council election will also be held on Friday, with on-site voting taking place from 09:30 to 14:30 (UTC +11). The successful candidates for the three positions open for election will be announced during the last session of the AGM. See the list of nominees.
