APNIC will deliver a three-day Network Security workshop from 17 to 19 June 2019, in Vientiane, Lao PDR with the support of LANIC.

Theworkshop will examine the key concepts, protocols and policies involved in establishing and maintaining security for a network, and building an understanding and familiarity with their operation.

Device and network infrastructure security are examined with a focus on different layers to establish a robust, stable and secure network, and protect the data and processes that occur in the network. It also looks at the nature and structure of, and motivation behind network attacks, and the actions and processes that can be used to identify, mitigate and respond to attacks.

The workshop is suitable for engineers, network managers and operators and security policymakers who are interested in network security, threats and how to mitigate them.

Topics covered will include:

  • Network security fundamentals
  • Security on different layers and attack mitigation
  • Cryptography and PKI
  • Device and infrastructure security
  • Operational security and policies
  • VPNs and IPSec
  • DNSSEC
  • Route filtering

Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops to practice hands-on lessons using APNIC virtual labs.
