The 30th South Asia Network Operators Group (SANOG) conference — SANOG 30 — was held in Gurgaon, India, from 10 to 18 July 2017.

SANOG is a non-profit forum for network operators in South Asia. SANOG 30 was hosted by the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI), with support from the Association of Competitive Telecom Operators, the Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India (AUSPI) and the Cyber Cafe Association of India (CCAOI).

APNIC staff, and Executive Council members Gaurab Raj Upadhaya, Rajesh Chharia, and Roopinder Singh Perhar joined more than 200 registrants from across South Asia for the two-day conference, which was followed by two days of tutorials and five days of workshops.

APNIC activities

  • Sunny Chendi presented the APNIC regional update.

  • In his role of APNIC consultant, Philip Smith provided an update on Internet IPv4 Routing Table Analysis as part of the Network Operations session, as well as an introductory presentation on the RIPE Atlas program and local use cases.
  • Fakrul Alam presented on SDN RPSL and RPKI during a one-day tutorial.
  • Philip presented two sessions on IXP design best practices and IPv6 deployment planning, as part of a one-day tutorial.
  • Tashi Phuntsho ran a five-day workshop on IPv4/IPv6 routing with Bangladeshi trainers Abdul Awal (BDREN) and Chinmay Biswas (Fibre@Home).
  • Fakrul also ran a five-day workshop on network security alongside Matsuzaki Yoshinobu (IIJ) and Champika Wijayatunga (ICANN).
  • Pubudu Jayasinghe was on hand during the week to answer Members’ and other attendees’ questions regarding resource requirements, and assisting with updating whois details and creating ROAs.
  • On the first afternoon of the conference, APNIC held a Member Gathering for close to 40 participants, including APNIC and IRRIN Members, and SANOG Fellows. APNIC staff answered questions regarding Internet resources, including delegation criteria available to APNIC Members (including wait list delegations), IPv4 transfers and IPv6 deployment.
