APNIC Special Interest Groups (SIGs) focus on specific subject areas and provide an open, public forum for discussing topics relevant to APNIC and the wider Asia Pacific Internet community. SIG meetings are held in person at APNIC conferences, which take place twice a year, and are chaired by community members with appropriate knowledge and expertise. Current APNIC SIGs are the Policy SIG, National Internet Registry (NIR) SIG, Cooperation SIG, and Routing Security SIG.
At APNIC 60 in Da Nang, there was a special joint SIGs session where, following community discussions on proposed updates to the nomination criteria for SIG Chair and Co-chair positions, it became clear that a whole-of-document review of the APNIC SIG Guidelines is the best way to ensure the guidelines remain relevant, transparent, and aligned with community expectations.
SIGs are a cornerstone of APNIC’s open Policy Development Process, and the guidelines that shape their operation should reflect the values and diversity of the community they serve. This review is an opportunity for everyone to help refine how SIGs work, strengthen participation, and ensure the process continues to evolve with the Internet community’s needs.
We invite all community members to take part in this review by:
- Submitting a Pull Request (PR) to the SIG Guidelines Review repository
- Reaching out directly to Bertrand Cherrier, Karl Kloppenborg, or me
- Sharing your feedback on the APNIC-Talk or any of the SIG mailing lists (Policy SIG, Cooperation SIG, NIR SIG, Routing Security SIG)
Your input will help shape the next stage of SIG development and ensure the process continues to serve the community effectively. If you have questions, ideas, or proposed changes, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
