APNIC supported and participated in the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF) 2021 from 27 to 30 September 2021. The event was held in a hybrid format, comprising online sessions, local hubs, and in-person attendance in Kathmandu, Nepal.
APrIGF 2021 continued discussions on the overarching theme of an ‘inclusive, sustainable and trusted Internet’, with topics related to Internet infrastructure, security, diversity, and data governance included in the program.
APNIC activities:
- Joyce Chen was the keynote presenter at the ‘Capacity Building Program for Fellows and Newcomers’ session. Joyce spoke on the importance of Internet communities collaborating to build trust.
- George Michaelson presented ‘The “Hour-Glass” revisited’ during the ‘Why open and interoperable Internet infrastructure is key to the Internet’s continued success’ session.
- APNIC organized the ‘Internet’s Technical Success Factors’ showcase, moderated by Pablo Hinojosa and Joyce Chen. Paul Wilson spoke about the joint work APNIC and LACNIC are doing to objectively identify and explore key success measures of the Internet, based on real-world operational realities.
- Sylvia Cadena gave the keynote presentation at the Closing Plenary, and spoke about multistakeholderism and the importance of active participation.
