Event Wrap: FIRST Technical Colloquium, Bali

APNIC recently conducted a two-day CSIRT Operation and Incident Handling workshop as part of FIRST Technical Colloquium 2015, held in Bali, Indonesia from 29 to 30 October 2015.

FIRST Technical Colloquia events provide a discussion forum for FIRST Members and invited guests to share information about handling security incidents, closing vulnerabilities, managing tools and other issues affecting the operation of incident response and security teams. This event included three security-related workshops: CSIRT Operation and Incident Handling; Securing DNS; and Penetration Testing.

Each workshop had around 25 participants, drawn from various industries including education, financial services, ISPs, hotels, legal firms, and government.

The event was organized by local FIRST member, Indonesia Security Incident Response Team on Internet Infrastructure (IDSIRTII), with support from Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information (KOMINFO).  IDSIRTII aims to increase online security awareness among technical and user communities, particularly to ensure organizations have the relevant knowledge and skills to protect their information assets and infrastructure.

APNIC activities included:

  • Adli Wahid, APNIC’s Security Specialist, conducted a two-day CSIRT Operation & Incident Handling workshop for 25 participants. Topics included: how to improve security controls, establishing a CERT/CSIRT in an enterprise, tools and issues in operating a CSIRT, and how to run an internal desktop exercise for creating awareness and improving internal policies & procedures.
