APNIC recently welcomed Dr Yang Guoliang, President of the Future Network Research Institute of Xiong’an (in person), and senior representatives of the Xiong’an New Area Administrative Committee (remotely) to the official presentation of the IPv6 City Plaque and continued discussions on technical cooperation.
The meeting, hosted by Mei Xinyang, Deputy Director, Management Committee of Xiong’an, opened with remarks from APNIC Director General (CEO) Jia Rong Low and Yu Guoyi, Deputy Director of the Xiong’an Management Committee. This was followed by a presentation from Liang Zhihao, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Industry, Information Technology, Science and Technology, Data of Xiong’an, who outlined Xiong’an’s roadmap for developing an IPv6‑enabled city and opportunities for further collaboration with APNIC.
During the meeting, Jia Rong Low acknowledged China’s rapid growth in IPv6 capability and noted that Xiong’an has become an internationally visible example of large‑scale IPv6 deployment and application.
APNIC formally presented the IPv6 city plaque, recognizing Xiong’an New Area’s progress and commitment to IPv6 deployment. Both teams reviewed recent cooperation — including Xiong’an New Area’s contributions at APNIC conferences — and discussed next steps for upcoming initiatives, such as the IPv6 deployment training program and the RPKI training and roadshow that Xiong’an will host.
APNIC expressed confidence that the partnership would continue to strengthen and that Xiong’an would remain closely connected to the wider Asia Pacific technical community.
Xiong’an 2026 Future City competitions launched
Xiong’an New Area has launched the third Collection of Future City, an expanded innovation program focused on scenario‑driven development and emerging technologies. The 2026 edition includes 12 competitions across 35 specialized tracks, reflecting the region’s long‑term development plans and China’s focus on next‑generation industrial capacity.
Two new themes, Green Energy and Smart Express Logistics, have been added this year, creating a more comprehensive set of categories spanning aerospace, robotics, healthcare, agriculture, cybersecurity, smart cities, finance, and logistics. Track design has also been refined to emphasise specific technologies and application scenarios, encouraging more targeted and technically specialized submissions.
This year’s IPv6 competition is embedded as part of the ‘2026 Xiong’an International Smart City Innovation Technology Competition’ track.
Registration open
Preliminary and final rounds will run from April to June 2026. Registration is now open through official Xiong’an Future City channels, with organizers expecting wider participation from enterprises, research institutions, startups, and independent innovators.
As Xiong’an New Area positions itself as a testing ground for future urban development, the competition offers insight into the technologies and ideas likely to influence its trajectory, while also providing a platform for emerging innovation across the region.
