In this episode, we talk with Adrian Farrel about a study he and Daniel King conducted on the challenges semantic routing has had on the Internet’s routing system.

Now, this is a topic that a lot of people have a poor opinion of, particularly its link to New IP. But what this study hopes to achieve is to look past the preconceptions and discover the broad underlying issues that semantic routing proposals are seeking to address and how to do it in a generic and scalable way that doesn’t break the network layer. Further to this, it also seeks to shed a light on the standard system and how to introduce new ideas before shooting them down as inappropriate.

You can read more about this study on the APNIC Blog or via the following sources:

Also, there is a free virtual IETF Routing Area Working Group (RTGWG) interim meeting on 21 June 2022 (15:00 to 17:00 UTC) to discuss semantic routing.
