APNIC participated at the International Telecommunications Union Regional Preparatory Meeting for Asia and the Pacific for WTDC-21 (ITU RPM-ASP WTDC-21), held online from 9 to 10 March 2021.
The Regional Preparatory Meetings (RPMs) are held in preparation of the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2021 (WTDC-21), for regional coordination and to identify issues at the regional level that need to be addressed to foster ICT and telecommunications development of Member States and regional Sector Members.
The event welcomed around 100 unique participants to hear updates and outcomes from various related working groups and reports on the WTDC-17 Buenos Aires Action Plan.
APNIC submitted a contribution to this meeting titled, ‘Responses to COVID-19 and its impact on infrastructure and affordability‘ outlining its suggestions for regional priorities in the areas of capacity building and pandemic response by network operators.
APNIC activities:
- Joyce Chen spoke on how the technical community has cooperated with the health sector, and how network operators have adapted their businesses in the face of the pandemic, both of which can contribute to the ITU’s Global Network Resiliency Platform (#REG4COVID).
