Recently I had the opportunity to visit the lovely city of Taichung, Taiwan at the invitation of TWNIC and Mayor Lin.

As you may know, at APRICOT 2015, the APNIC Executive Council (EC) announced that APNIC 44 will be in Taiwan, with the location to be confirmed. My visit to Taichung happened to coincide with a presentation I gave at an Internet infrastructure seminar, so I accepted Mr Lin’s kind invitation and toured the city.

Mayor Lin is keenly aware of the importance of technological innovation in Taichung, and he envisioned setting up a site to model a smart city, which he hopes to build through partnership with industry players. It was a great opportunity for me to see how the city will evolve with the ever-changing requirements that technological innovation presents and I thank TWNIC and Mayor Lin for their hospitality.

Stay tuned, the APNIC EC will confirm the location of APNIC 44 at APNIC 40, which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 3 to 10 September 2015.
