With less than a month until the opening ceremony, there’s no better time to start planning your schedule for the APNIC 44 conference, which will be held in Taichung, Taiwan, from 12 September.
Cisco’s Anand Oswal and APNIC’s Geoff Huston will headline a packed program featuring three days of technical content, including presentations from international technical experts, tutorials, and the popular Lightning Talks.
Highlights include:
- Anand Oswal speaking candidly on Cisco’s IPv6-only campus.
- Geoff Huston discussing a new initiative to strengthen the DNS by effectively turning thousands of humble DNS recursive name resolvers into root servers.
- Jonathan Brewer on the technology and challenges associated with satellite broadband services.
- Ying-Chieh Chang talking on the Taiwan Academic Network’s (TANet’s) recent upgrades to a 100G Backbone.
- Matt Jansen sharing how the Facebook network arrived at its current scale.
- Jordi Palet taking about best current operational practices for deploying IPv6.
- Avishay Zawoznik, from Imperva Incapsula’s security labs, exploring the Mirai attack through malware source code, and how to prevent future attacks.
Six policy proposals to be discussed
The Open Policy Meeting at APNIC 44 will be held across three sessions on 13 and 14 September 2017.
Community members interested in participating in the discussion of the following proposals should participate in the Policy SIG Mailing List and attend the Policy SIG meeting either in person or by remote participation.

- prop-118-v001 — No need policy in APNIC region
- prop-119-v001 — Temporary transfers
- prop-120-v001 — Final /8 pool exhaustion plan
- prop-121-v001 — Updating “Initial IPv6 allocation” policy
- prop-122-v001 — Updating “Subsequent IPv6 allocation” policy

APNIC 44’s local host, TWNIC, is providing assistance to delegates with individual entry requirements where possible.
If you are required to lodge your visa application in person with an office, please contact TWNIC as they may be able to assist with a simplified application process.
To allow enough time for processing, please contact TWNIC no later than Friday, 18 August 2017 and send to ia@twnic.net.tw a copy of your passport and your conference invitation letter.
